Make the amount feel real

Open the transaction entry screen, choose income or expense, and enter the amount. As the number changes, Monaura shows its equivalent combination of banknotes and coins. The amount remains clearly readable alongside the visualization.

The illustration represents a value. It does not claim that you paid with those particular notes or coins. You can record a card payment just as you would a cash expense.

Keep enough context to remember

Choose the account the money came from and a category that describes the expense. Add a note when the category alone will not tell the whole story. Tags can connect records across categories, and images can keep supporting details with a transaction.

You decide how much detail to add. A daily coffee may only need an amount, account, and category. A work purchase may benefit from a note and attachment. Make sure the date reflects when the transaction happened rather than relying on the day you entered it.

Review the day, then the pattern

Your recent records provide a quick check of the day. Open the full transaction history to search and filter when you need a particular record. Review an amount, category, or account before changing it, and use the transaction detail flow to make corrections.

Our example contains a $6.75 coffee, a $24.50 lunch, and $128.68 of groceries. Together they total $159.93. Looking back at the individual records explains the total; looking at categories and periods helps explain the pattern.

Move between your own accounts

Moving money between accounts is different from buying something. Use the appropriate transfer flow so the movement is represented as an account movement rather than creating a second expense. For different currencies, check both account amounts before saving.
