Start with a defined scope
A useful budget has a recognizable purpose. Choose the categories and period you want to follow, then set an amount that reflects your own plan. Keep the scope clear enough that you can explain which records belong in it.
Monaura brings the budget amount and spending together so you can review progress without reconstructing the total yourself. Open the budget details to understand the records included in the calculation.
Read the amount behind the percentage
The example shown here uses a $500.00 food budget and $159.93 spent, leaving $340.07. The ring rounds the used share to 32%. The displayed amounts provide the precise context behind that rounded visual.
These are illustrative records, not a recommended spending target. Set your own amounts based on the period and categories you are actually recording.
Notice the categories shaping your spending
Use the statistics view to explore your recorded income and expenses over a chosen period. Category breakdowns help locate the records behind a total, while trends help you notice changes between parts of the period.
When a total surprises you, check the date range, selected categories, currency conversion, and the underlying records. A budget and an account balance answer different questions: one describes a plan and related spending; the other describes the money recorded in an account.
Revisit the plan as life changes
Keep recording when you go over a plan. A complete record is more useful than a tidy-looking percentage with transactions missing. Review the entries and decide whether the next period should use a different amount or scope.
